The Quiet Ones are made up of fourteen musicians spread out across five states. As you would expect from such a well-populated group, their sound is pretty large, although the songwriting is pretty straight forward - perhaps sounding something like Death Cab For Cutie or The Shins, but with a few spacey orchestral moments that recall The Flaming Lips (singer John Totten's voice also sounds a lot like Wayne Coyne's). Although The Quiet Ones don't have hundreds of thousands of fans like their influences, they've got something interesting going on in this six song EP, with some major pop potential in songs like "Hard To Explain" and "I Don't Know Why". Assuming they don't screw it up, I wouldn't be surprised if some people start taking notice with their next full-length.
