OLD WHITE LINCOLN

THE GASLIGHT ANTHEM
OLD WHITE LINCOLN
(Side One Dummy)
BY DAVID ADAIR

These New Jersey trundle rockers bring together the atmospheric tug of The Sonic Youth and a clearly pitched, but slowed down and a slight soulful pounce not dissimilar to The Hold Steady. Old White Lincoln, is anthemic but not in a sappy cheesy way and the infectious chorus is rustically built up to. As you listen you can feel Brian Fallons vocals getting glossier, as he works up to emphatically emphasise the nostalgic lyrics.

A story of repression and hope of the quality that has been earning the tellers such like free beers at Taverns America over since the first one was built, is espoused from a low-key acoustic, tip-toeing percussion base, for The 59 Sound. Blues, Americana and Alt. Country are woven together to facilitate the sincerity and compelling nature of this new outfit that is determined to retain its depth. Despite the fact that their label will probably torture them with razors and Har Mar Superstar songs, in order to get them to produce more anthems like the above mentioned A-side.
