Here’s something interesting from the mind of Miguel Marin. This new release sounds like the perfect motion picture of a still, rainy night. From the first track to the last one, the computer keeps playing its tunes and fx with an unbelievable elegance, which does not comes from a fanatic utilisation of the synths. The cacophonic way of playing electronics has been sectioned in between the tracks of this record in many impressions of noises, which come and go, giving a sense of being into the sound itself. Songs such as Nela (track n. 8) are the evidence, but everything in this record is a fine collection of essays that dive into making electronica meld into the ambient, giving them a more human dimension. The first track, Bikes and Kaoss, has a pulsating sampled rhythm, which extends the song into the ethereal. Evident Jazz tensions in Agios are sublimated by the voice of Suzy Mangion, who appears on both Raquel and Rings for You tracks. Brian Eno’s influence is scattered around the corners of every single track of this CD, especially the Music for… series. The evident efforts put into preparing a magnetic field of sounds and sampling, giving form to several melodies –which, believe me, have nothing to fear in comparison to Eno’s works-, is the particular score of a perfect crossing between the actual status of electronics and the tension to melody. It would be better to talk about open spaces, instead of melodies; in fact, the compositions are going that way with discretion, and are a tribute to the incomparable ability of the performer, Miguel Marin. What more to say? Sailing through a veritable sea of absolute rubbish, it’s always possible to catch some good fish… this CD is a good place to look.
