The style of Arise From Thorns can be described as just everything possible, except what is put forth by the label. Progressive Metal? Not in any way. The sound direction is a semi-acoustic atmospheric rock, with touches of progressive, jazz and pop. Rare are the guitar interventions, but one does occur in the beautiful “Time Alone”. The harmonies are well built, and also the creation of climates, with the participation of the keyboards in small orchestrations. But what gives the tonic of the whole album is Michelle Loose’s soft voice. “Dreaming”, “Among The Leaves”, “Remember The Stars” and “Bluer Skies” exemplify that tendency well and serve as a reference for the rest of the disc. If you’re looking for something similar to The 3rd And The Mortal, Ataraxia, The Gathering, among other bands in this style, this is a good indication. Arise From Thorns is far away from being as brilliant and as creative as the three mentioned groups, but they do have their good moments and the musicians present precision, technique and good musicianship.
